Monolith is the presenting sponsor of the George Elliott Memorial Race on September 18th
Monday, August 16th, 2010GMP TO HOST INAUGURAL GEORGE ELLIOTT MEMORIAL 100
ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JEFFERSON, GA (August 12, 2010) – Gresham Motorsports Park is proud to announce the September 18 Super Late Model event at the track will be titled the George Elliott Memorial 100 Presented By Monolith Companies. The event – which was suggested by Russ Sutton of Monolith – will honor Elliott, who helped countless racers with their careers throughout his 40-year racing career.
Elliott, a lifelong Dawsonville, GA resident who passed away in 1998, is also the father of NASCAR racing greats Bill, Ernie and Dan Elliott.
“George had an enormous influence in the Georgia racing community,” said Sutton. “He not only had a great passion for the sport of auto racing, but he was the kind of guy that was always using his resources – cars, parts and money – to help those in the sport. Bill (Elliott) and I sat down recently and he showed me a lot of old photos of drivers that George had helped. The auto racing community should know that George wasn’t just about putting Bill Elliott on the track.
“George opened his heart to a lot of people outside the sport too,” Sutton continued. “Early in my business career, George gave me a truck when I didn’t have money to buy one. He just threw me the keys and said ‘come in here and pay me when you can.’ That was just George. I thought it would be great to carve out a spot to honor him with a race and give the fans an opportunity to appreciate what he had done. I hope the George Elliott Memorial Race will do that.”
The September 18 event will feature the George Elliott Memorial 100-lap Super Late Model event as well as main events for the Outlaw Late Models, Renegade Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Trucks and Mini Cup divisions.
“Russ Sutton mirrors the things I knew about my dad and what I learned from him,” said Dan Elliott, General Manager at Gresham Motorsports Park. “Tommy Irvin (Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member) told me that daddy owned the first car he ever drove. Everywhere I go now I hear more and more stories like this, stuff that I never knew about when I was a kid. These are the stories that warm my heart – the good things that you want to hear about your parents and the influence they had in other people’s live. I am so grateful to Russ Sutton for doing this for my dad.”

Monolith participates in the 2010 Angel Flight Golf Tournament
Friday, July 16th, 2010Monolith recently participated in the 2010 Angel Flight Golf Tournament at Chateau Elan in Flowery Branch, GA. Joined by Vipin Pattni of Pattni Lodging Group, a hotel development and management firm out of Atlanta, and Ryan Rawlinson from Adcock & Associates, a hospitality manufacturers rep firm our of Atlanta, Monolith donated their time and entry fee to the great cause. Although we didn’t win the tournment, we enjoyed the spectacular event, met lots of great people, and learned even more about Angel Flight.
“Angel Flight was created by a group of pilots who believe in the benefit of volunteering. We strive to keep all aspects of the organization volunteer. We are a non-profit charitable organization of pilots, volunteers, and friends. We will arrange free air transportation for any legitimate, charitable, medically related need. This service is available to individuals, and health care organizations. We will also arrange transportation of those people who are financially distressed, or who are in a time-critical, non-emergency situation due to their medical condition.
Angel Flight primarily serves patients needing transportation to or from the heartland region. As members of the Air Care Alliance, a group of organizations providing similar services throughout the United States. By coordinating with other organizations, Angel Flight can arrange transportation for patients on longer flights to other parts of the country outside of the Heartland region. Angel Flight has also flown blood products for the Oklahoma Blood Institute and Red Cross in emergency situations. Our Patients are usually traveling for surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis, and other treatments. A typical flight may carry patients requiring treatment at M.D. Anderson in Houston or the Shriner Hospital in Galveston, TX.
Angel Flight is financially supported primarily by our pilots who fly the missions (by donating the use of their airplanes and operating expenses) and by contributions from individuals, service clubs, social and religious groups and corporations. We receive no financial aid from any government entity. There is never a fee of any kind, either to the patient or the health care provider for an Angel Flight. The costs are paid by the volunteer pilots.”
